Books that Stuck with Me in 2018

Books that Stuck with Me in 2018

As the years go by, reading assumes a larger and larger portion of how I spend my time.

This year, among other things, I’ve launched my website, moved back to Colorado, and started the podcast Nomad Ramblings: Conversations from the Road (with Brian Galyon of Colorado Backcountry Adventures). My point being, it’s been a transformative year for me and I thought it’d be revealing to list some of the books I’ve read which reflect this growth from a different angle. I present the books in no particular order and, rather than attempt to provide any sort of book review, I will extend a couple, two, three impacts or insights I gathered from the book and why I read it.

Carry less stuff, but consume more books!

As a perpetual road dawg, I’m always looking for ways to carry less stuff. But I love gettin’ me some book knowledge. What’s Craigy Cakes to do?!

I use the app, Libby!

In this tutorial, I show you how to set up the app with your library, search for audio and ebooks, and send the books to your Kindle or play the audiobook.

I’m never without a stock of great audio or Kindle books to keep my brain occupied. Nor should you be!

The Mecca of Christmas Music - a playlist to end all playlists

The Mecca of Christmas Music - a playlist to end all playlists

What is my flavor? So glad you asked! I’ve compiled a close to perfection compendium on Spotify of the best of the best of the best Christmas music. (If you haven’t dug into Spotify yet, as a musicophile, I highly recommend. My only hesitation/concern is that less known musicians don’t get the money they deserve. I’m not sure the solution, here, but am open to suggestion. But I digress….) I haven’t put any effort (yet) into ordering songs or even albums, but I have assembled many of the primo albums and songs. A major source of the albums for this playlist is the 2012 Rolling Stone magazine article, The 25 Greatest Christmas Albums of All Time.

Not a pop tune was playing, not even Bad to the Bone
The carols were loaded in playlists with care
In hopes that Craig’s fat fingers soon would lay bare
The Grinchies were grinchin’ no playin til next month
While Craigy said '“suck it” and “y’all need to listen to this dope-ass Christmas shit!”

Conflicted about Intimacy

Conflicted about Intimacy

In a way, this ability of mine is a gift of intimacy. One of the Merriam Webster Dictionary definitions for intimate is, “belonging to or characterizing one’s deepest nature.” Without being overly dramatic, offering myself this way is giving others my life-force. I often need to recuperate in a 5:1 ratio - giving myself five hours of alone time for every one hour of service. Despite this knowledge, and being in the midst of my own stressful transition, I gave of my deepest nature in my own time of need.
